Uthoff close to narrowing it down?
This past weekend Jarrod Uthoff had the chance to reconnect with some familiar faces on the basketball court, his high school teammates at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. The rising prospect in the Class of 2011 took part with his teammates an AAU event in Ankeny and he enjoyed getting back together with them.
"It's kind of nice getting to play with my high school team again this weekend," Uthoff said.
It also means a different role on the court of the skilled 6-foot-8 prospect. When he plays with his AAU team, the Iowa Barnstormers, gets the opportunity to show off his perimeter skills. With his high school team, he is primarily in the post because of the lack of height on the rest of the team.
"I play a little different when I am with the Barnstormers because we have two other guys that are my height. With my high school team, I am the biggest guy on the floor. The next biggest guy that we have is 6-foot-2, so I go to the post."
With his skill set and the ability to step outside at his size and shoot the basketball and drive to the basket, Uthoff has been compared to Butler's Gordon Hayward. The humble Cedar Rapids prep is honored by the comparisons.
"It kind of freaks me out a little bit because he is going to the NBA. I don't know if I will ever be that good, but it is really nice that people think that much of my abilities," he said.
As the month of May winds down, various camps will be underway on college campuses along with campus visits. Uthoff plans to play with his high school team one more time this summer during June and then it will be back with the Barnstormers in July. He has already has plans for a couple of visits next month.
