Walker sets visits
After reaching the Ohio Division I state championship game last season, Cleveland Glenville had hoped to take the next step and win the school's first state title in 2010.
The Tarblooders fell short of that goal when they lost to Lakewood St. Edward in the Region 1 semifinals.
"Losing in the second round of the playoffs was devastating," said senior offensive lineman Aundrey Walker. "It was hard on me."
Walker, Ohio's top ranked offensive lineman and a four-star prospect, took the loss hard. But, he knows he can't dwell on it, not when he has to prepare for the US Army All-American Bowl in January and also to narrow down a long list of potential colleges before signing day in February.
Reluctantly, Walker has turned his attention to the recruiting process.
He has scheduled official visits to Michigan State on Dec. 3 and to Ohio State on Dec. 11. He'll start his official to OSU on Saturday, after he takes the ACT. He's also considering a trip to Pittsburgh.
Last weekend Walker, along with his mother and aunt and uncle, made another unofficial visit to Columbus for the Buckeyes' dominating win over rival Michigan.
"It went good," he said. "I've been down there a couple times and it's always the same. It's a beautiful atmosphere and they have lively fans."
Walker didn't have much of an opportunity to talk with the OSU coaching staff, but he did zero in on the Buckeyes' offense, especially the offensive line.
"Terrelle Pryor is amazing. He does some great things," Walker said. "I watched Mike Adams and Bryant Browning a little bit, too. They looked pretty good."
For now, Walker said he's still considering a handful of schools including Ohio State, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, USC, UCLA and Penn State.
Walker and the rest of the US Army All-Americans report to San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 31 for a week of practice before the nationally televised all-star game.
He's looking forward to showcasing his skills against the nation's top players.
"This is a blessing for me," he said. "It's a good experience."
