Justin Thomas takes in A&M
2010 was a year West Orange Stark cornerback Justin Thomas would just as soon forget. It even though his play on the field was top-notch -- he earned first team All-District 21-3A honors for a second consecutive year -- and the Mustangs made the playoffs, the loss of his good friend, quarterback Reggie Garrett, loomed large over the season.
But now, with the 2010 season over and colleges actively pursuing him, Thomas has started to look to the future. As part of that process, he attended Texas A&M's Jan. 29 junior day with teammate DeCarlos Renfro.
"It was great," Thomas told Aggieyell.com. "I had a really good time."
Thomas said the visit included tours of A&M's facilities, which caught his attention.
"They showed us around a little bit. We got to see the main practice field, the locker room and the indoor facility," he said. "Everything looked really good."
The 5 foot, 9 inch, 170-lb. Thomas said he also spent a good amount of time talking to one of the members of the Aggie coaching staff.
"I got a chance to talk to coach Turner," he said. "We talked about a lot of stuff, like grades, the whole recruiting process and the SAT."
Thomas, who is also the defending 3A Region III 200 meter dash champion, has offers from Houston and Texas Tech. He didn't receive one from the Aggies at junior day, but that doesn't mean the door has closed.
"They told me coach they going to see afterwards, that they'd still be checking on me," he said.
