Sanders Jr. highlights visitor list for BYU game
OXFORD, Miss. -- OXFORD, Miss. -- Oklahoma City (Heritage Hall), Okla., running back Barry Sanders was in Oxford Saturday for Ole Miss' season opener against Brigham Young.
The Rebels trail Alabama, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Florida State for Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, but the 5-foot-11, 190-pound speedster does have some ties to the Ole Miss program.
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt was the running backs coach at Oklahoma State when the elder Sanders was starting his Heisman Trophy-winning college career. The younger Sanders is also friends with former Oklahoma State tight end Jamal Mosley, who made his debut at Ole Miss Saturday.
Sanders, ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma, is also ranked as the No. 7 running back and the No. 134 prospect nationally.
Several of Ole Miss' top recruiting targets were in attendance as well. Oxford, Miss., quarterack Jeremy Liggins, a frequent visitor to the Rebels' fall camp last month, made the trip across town Saturday. Liggins has narrowed his list of choices to Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU and Alabama.
Petal, Miss., quarterback Anthony Alford, a two-sport star who is also an elite baseball prospect, made the trip to Oxford for the opener as well. Alford is believed to be strongly considering Ole Miss, LSU and Mississippi State.
Florence, Ala., athlete Beniquez Brown, who has been moving up the Rebels' want chart in recent weeks, made the trip west to check out Ole Miss. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Brown, is leaning to Alabama over offers from several SEC schools.
A handful of Memphis-area prospects made the trip south to Oxford as well. Offensive lineman Ben Still, who committed to Ole Miss last spring, was there. Joining him where two junior running backs from Memphis, Shane Tucker and Jordan Wilkins. Senior defensive end Chase Robison and senior cornerback Alex Dale, two Memphis prospects on the Rebels' radar, were at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as well.
Fulton, Miss., quarterback Maikhail Miller, who signed with Ole Miss in February but did not report in August, was in Oxford as well. Miller is expected to grayshirt and begin his Ole Miss career in January.
RebelGrove.com will have recruiting updates and a complete list of visitors in the coming days.
