Trinity Catholic quarterback John Brantley is piling up the post-season awards after a stellar senior season leading the Celtics to the 2B state title game for a second consecutive season. The 6-foot-3, 198-pound quarterback picked up the Gatorade Player of the Year award for the state of Florida two weeks ago, which is an award that every high school player would love to win.
This week, Brantley received an even bigger award that the best players in the country aim for every year. The Texas commit was awarded the Gatorade National Player of the Year award after throwing for 2,766 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2006.
Brantley joins an impressive list of former Gatorade National Player of the year winners that includes Peyton Manning, Robert Smith, Brock Huard, Travis Minor, Tim Couch, Emmitt Smith, Jeff George, Terry Kirby, Ronald Curry, Joe Mauer and Lorenzo Booker.
