Gettis ready to get to Iowa City
Tom Kakert
HawkeyeReport.com As the month of May starts up, it is also a time where high school seniors start wrapping up their athletic careers in other sports. For future Hawkeye Adam Gettis, it means making a run for a state title in two events this spring, the shotput and discus. Gettis talks about the last month of school, when he plans to get to Iowa, plus much more.
Q: What have the last couple months been like for you since signing day?
GETTIS: I started track about a month after signing day, so that has been keeping me pretty busy. Then I am also keeping up with my academics and getting ready for graduation. The other thing we have coming up is prom.
Q: What events have you been doing in track?
GETTIS: I am doing the shot and discus.
Q: How have you done so far in those events?
GETTIS: I took second in the indoor season. Right now I am ranked #1 in the state outdoor in the shot and #5 in discus.
Q: What sort of contact have you had with the Iowa coaches since signing day?
GETTIS: I call the coaches about once or twice a week since signing day or they call me. We talk about how things are going for me and my lifting routine.
Q: What side of the ball? Are you still thinking offensive side?
GETTIS: It really doesn't matter to me, but they said they are going to start me out on the offensive side. If things don't work out there, then I would be more than happy to play defense. I really don't have a preference; I just want to play football.
