Robertson solid to ISU?
Lamar High School of Houston has a recent rich tradition of producing Division I athletes. Texas Longhorns Brian Orakpo and Andrew Kelson hail from the Houston Independent School District (HISD) program. LSU's leading receiver Brandon LaFell and Oklahoma run-stopper John Williams are also Lamar alums.
Lamar's headliner this season is Tracy Robertson. The 6-foot-4 defensive end, who combines size and speed, verbally committed to Iowa State this summer, but he is weighing his options.
"I took my official visit to Iowa State last weekend and had a good time," he said. "I liked the campus and the coaches, but I'm going to take my visits. I'm committed, but I want to see some other schools.
"I'm hearing a lot from Oklahoma State and Baylor," he said. "I think Minnesota is getting ready to offer me and Alabama is coming to my school to get some senior tape. I'd be interested in both of those schools."
Robertson's teammate Eric Lair[d/b] has verbally committed to Minnesota while HISD-mate [db]Damion Square of Yates High School is an Alabama commit.
"I wouldn't mind playing with those guys," he said.
Robertson translates into an edge rusher at the Division I level. His speed and motor have improved since his junior season and he has a good frame to add weight at the next level.
Lamar's (6-1) stingy defense has given up only 73 points, which is an average of just over 10 points per game.
