Tech OL commit excited about visit
Lewisville (TX) Hebron offensive lineman Joel Gray will put the exclamation mark on his recruitment this weekend as he takes an official visit to the school to which he is verbally committed, Texas Tech. Though he pledged to the Red Raiders in August, Gray wanted to hold off on officially visiting Lubbock until after the 2008 season.
"I'm really excited about it," he said. "I've really been looking forward to it. I've wanted to take my official ever since I committed, but I really wanted to wait until football was over for me and also Tech, so I can spend a full weekend and have as much time as possible to be up there in Lubbock.
"Really, what I'm looking forward to most is meeting all of the commits and starting to get that bond together."
Texas Tech is bringing in a number of visitors this weekend, committed and uncommitted prospects alike. In fact, Gray will be traveling to the South Plains with friend and fellow commit Kyle Clark.
"We both visited up there this summer - we both rode together in the car - so we got to know each other pretty well," explained Gray. "After I committed, we both decided that we wanted to take our officials together. I think we're on the same plane flight and everything."
After visiting Texas Tech, the three-star prospect plans to host head coach Mike Leach for an in-home visit before signing with the Red Raiders on National Signing Day.
"Our school, every year, has a big signing party for all the people that sign," said Gray. "It's going to be real cool this year because five or six of my best friends - we've been playing together since we were five years old - are all going to sign together which is going to be a real cool experience."
Any question as to who he will be faxing his Letter of Intent to on February 4th?
"I'm a Red Raider," Gray said emphatically. "I'm more than excited to be a Red Raider. I can't wait to get out there."
As a senior, Gray was named Second Team Class 5A All-State by the Associated Press.
