Spring football draws ever closer
Head coach Mike Riley sat down with members of the media on Thursday to discuss spring football which kicks off in a little over a month (March 30). Obviously, the big news was regarding quarterback Lyle Moevao's pending shoulder surgery slated for Monday, but Riley offered up lots of other tidbits throughout the meeting as well.
Moevao's surgery looks to correct a bicep tendon and rotator cuff, which were injured during the ASU game in early November. The word from doctors right now is that the rehab process should take between 6 weeks and 4 months, which would give him adequate time to get ready for fall camp. Riley is optimistic to have both he and Sean Canfield ready to go in August.
Canfield now moves solely into the #1 spot for spring, taking the bulk of the snaps with the first team. Look for Peter Lalich and Ryan Katz to get their reps as well as coaches continue to work with and evaluate the signal callers.
"He's played well and looked good in practice," Riley said of Canfield. "I have a lot of confidence in Sean and he will have a great spring."
