Varnado reflects on busy summer
Jarvis Varnado had a busy summer to say the least.
The 6-foot-9 Mississippi State senior center declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft then decided to pull out and ended up representing his country in the World University Games in Serbia before returning home and relinquishing his scholarship to make room for highly touted recruits Renardo Sidney and John Riek.
Now Varnado is back in Starkville and preparing himself for his final season with the maroon and white.
"I'm just continuing to training and trying to get ready for this upcoming season," Varnado said. "We are going to have a good team and I'm trying to become a better leader so I can teach these younger guys."
The Bulldogs signed a Top 25 recruiting class in 2009 with Sidney and Riek highlighting the roster down low.
"Those two are a great addition to the team," Varnado said. "I think they are just going to add to our depth. Last year we made a good run and everybody just came together. Kodi Augustus started playing well for us. I think they are going to add to our team and bulk up our depth.
