USC quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus reeled in a pair of prospects from McEachern High in Powder Springs, Georgia in the 2011 recruiting cycle.
Now he has another one, 2012 defensive lineman Darius English.
Th 6-foot-6, 215-pounder actually pledged to the Gamecocks over the weekend after taking part in South Carolina's OL/DL camp, but kept things quiet until today.
"I committed when I went down there Saturday," he told GamecockCentral.com after going public. "I just wanted to talk things over with my family before I let the media know. It's a great school. I can see them winning a national championship in the future I have two teammates down there and great coaches."
English, who also had offers from Arkansas (his runner-up), Auburn, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss. St., and others totaling thirteen in all, credited Mangus as doing an outstanding job during his recruitment."
I talked to Coach Mangus more than I talked to any other coach from any other school," he explained. "He really just stayed close and always checked in on me to see how I was doing."
English recapped his performance at camp on Saturday and also talked about working under his future position coach, Brad Lawing.
"I did good down there. Coach Lawing, he's a great coach that really knows what he's doing. I know that he's going to teach me a lot of stuff that will make me a better player."
English also is aware of Carolina's talented group of recent and current defensive linemen, a group he is eager to join.
"They have a great defensive line. Cliff Matthews got drafted in this year's draft, and Devin Taylor should get drafted really high for next year. Coach Lawing does a great job of coaching."
His decision behind him, English can focus on his senior season. He hopes to make an impact once he arrives in Columbia.
"My goal for when I get there is to get stronger, put on a couple more pounds and when I'm ready to get on the field."
