EVERMAN-- The Everman Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0) offense has struggled early in the season as they've simply lacked a home run threat. However, they got a much needed lift on Friday night with the return of sophomore RB Terrence Cook in a 31-7 win over Granbury (2-4, 1-2) at Marr Stadium.
Cook who had been ineligble for the first six weeks of the season, wasted little time getting going as he scored on the opening drive of the game from six yards out to give EHS an early 7-0 edge. Cook would finish the game with 99 yards on 19 carries and two scores as he showed plenty of rust but simply being in the lineup helped Everman.
Granbury would answer with a impressive drive tying the game at seven on a forty yard touchdown pass from Nick Fotu to Briley Wood.
Everman would get a pair of field goals to jump ahead 13-7 late in the second quarter. The second field goal was set up by an interception and a 42 yard return deep into GHS territory by Torey Boozer.
After a Granbury punt with little more than a minute remaining, Everman would try and put together a last ditch drive before the half. On third and four, Everman QB Devynn Birdow threw an incomplete pass but a late hit on Birdow would keep the drive alive. Birdow was also injured on the play and would not return, but for a moment Everman had a spark as on the very next play Horace Richardson scored from 48 yards out to give EHS a 21-7 edge after the Boozer two point run. That seemed to be the back breaker as Granbury never seemed to recover from that score.
Everman would add ten more points in a penalty and turnover filled second half for the final result of 31-7. The Bulldogs next week travel to Burleson to take on the resurgent Elks in a key 7-4A matchup, while Granbury hosts Arlington Seguin in what amounts to a possible playoff elimination game.
