Football season is nearly upon us and there is no time to waste. While we have had 7-on-7 season, spring ball, and players have been attending camps and going through workouts, nothing beats the real thing and finally in less than a week, many high school programs take to the fields to begin preseason practice.

So with August upon us, let's take a look at the who, what and where for the Texas Longhorn 2013 recruiting class. There are plenty of big time match-ups you will not want to miss, including a few that see future Longhorns facing off with one another. Friday, September 28, is the first of the Horn on Horn match-ups with Harker Heights (Darius James and Naashon Hughes) hosting Belton (Durham Smythe). Next up is Dallas Jesuit (Jake Oliver) taking on Lake Highlands (Kent Perkins) on Friday, October 19. Then just a week later Cy Falls (Jacorey Warrick) and Cy Woods (Deoundrei Davis) take it to the fields. These games are sure to be action packed and highly contested. Not only is their future Longhorn pride on the line but, these are all district match-ups.

That is just the beginning. There are plenty of high-profile match-ups coming up for the 2013 class. In fact, Arlington Martin (Kyle Hicks) and Cibolo Steele (Erik Huhn) waste no time jumping right into the fire in non-district play. In Week 0 Martin takes on DeSoto and then follows it up with a big-time match against Dallas Skyline. Steele, on the other hand, starts with San Antonio Madison before taking on Converse Judson, Kerrville Tivy and Austin Westlake on four consecutive weeks.

Celina (Jake Raulerson) takes on Texarkana Liberty-Eylau in Paris September 21 and Belton and Temple is always a must see grudge match. Bastrop's (Antwuan Davis) match-up with Pflugerville Connally Friday, October 26 should provide some drama, and be one of the top match-ups in Central Texas. Then there is the mini-Red River Rivalry match-up down in Houston on two occasions. On Saturday, October 20 Cy Woods and Deoundrei Davis take on Cy Ranch and Oklahoma running back commit Keith Ford. Then Friday, November 9, Cy Falls and Jacorey Warrick get a chance to knock off Cy Ranch.

The one I have circled is Fort Worth Arlington Heights (A'Shawn Robinson) at Fort Worth Southwest (Robbie Rhodes ). These two should be playing for the district title and both feature two of the most explosive athletes in the nation.

Let's not forget the JC ranks and Butte C.C. (Geoff Swaim). The Roadrunners begin the season with a bang at the College of the Siskiyous (Sept. 8) and close it with another gem at the City College of San Francisco (Nov. 10).

That is a lot of football and there is plenty more. In fact, I have not even named the game I most want to attend. That award goes to Dallas Jesuit @ Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola. These guys will be play in Dublin, Ireland at Donny Brook Stadium. Now that is a trip I would not mind making. Somehow I do not think that is in the budget.
