There are good people on this board, but some are more than passing strange. Asi es la vida, I suppose.

I'll have to check on Fenwick Travers. Always looking for a good yarn. I've read just about everything GMF has written, but he passed away a couple years ago. Very inconsiderate of him - I was hoping he'd last another ten years or so.

I spent a fair amount of time in Mobile, back in the day. Enjoyed it there. Used to eat scamp at the Pillars (?). Great fish. I've seen a good chunk of Alabama. Very pretty state. It's like much of the South; many people think they know it, but they don't. "We're too dumb to make it in no Northern town...."

Thanks for the info about Flashman. It sounds very much like that U.S. Army oficer who created a fictional character called Fenwick Travers, although Fraser was clearly from a previous generation.

BTW, my nephew is a UT alum and I have tremendous respect for Texas... Enjoyed living there as well (about 25 years).
