Williams to visit Penn State next weekend
Brooklyn (N.Y.) Abraham Lincoln defensive end Ishaq Williams is beginning to get serious when it comes to recruiting. With offers from schools in every BCS conference, Williams waited until last month to narrow his list. Now down to Penn State, Alabama and Notre Dame, the Rivals100 prospect recently took another step forward towards making that final decision.
"I just set it up to go to the Michigan game on October 30," said Williams, referring to when he will visit to Penn State. "I'm going to be there with my dad and three teammates, I'm looking forward to it."
Williams was not sure which teammates will be joining him.
As for Notre Dame and Alabama, no visits have been set as of yet, but Williams has spoken with Alabama linebacker coach Sal Sunseri and Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco. Williams says that the two coaches call him weekly and the conversations are usually about how Williams is progressing.
So who does Williams speak with from Penn State?
"My father set up the visit with coach Buggs," said Williams. "But I've spoken with coach Johnson, coach Buggs and Kenney."
If you are wondering why so many coaches, Williams has been offered by Penn State to play either tight end or defensive end. Most people have speculated that Williams would like to play defense, but that may not be the case.
"Whatever gets me on the field first," said Williams. "I feel real comfortable there (Penn State) and I enjoyed my visit last time. I'm looking forward to seeing the things I missed last time."
With an overall record of 3-3 and an 0-2 start in the Big Ten, many Penn State fans wonder how the Nittany Lions poor performance on the field will affect their recruiting efforts. According to Williams, the fans shouldn't worry about him.
"This is just a rebuilding period for them, so that's not going to have an affect on my decision," said Williams. "Every team has these periods, I'm not worried about that."
Williams was chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 8. The game will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Williams will enroll in January to whichever school he attends, so a commitment before or during the All-American game is likely.
