Dawson makes time for USC

It's not often that a top prospect is thinking about taking official visits while deep in a playoff run.

But Danville (Kent.) linebacker [br]Lamar Dawson[/br] made time for his recruitment despite having the biggest games of his high school career coming up. His Boyle County team will try to defend its Kentucky class 4A title this Friday.

After that, Dawson's recruitment kicks into high gear. The four-star prospect has scheduled a visit to USC on Jan. 14. Having already been to Oregon, he also has set up a visit next week to Florida and January visits to Michigan and Tennessee.

Dawson saw enough in USC to draw him out West for another trip.

"It's a great combination of academics and athletics," Dawson said of USC. "I want to check out what it's like in the Pac-10 and out west. When they offered me, it was a great feeling to get an offer from one of the top schools in the country."

Receivers coach John Morton has been recruiting Dawson and has made an impression on him.

"I like Coach Morton a lot," Dawson said. "He seems like a great guy. I talk to Coach [Lane] Kiffin every once in a while too."

Dawson denied having any favorites right now and said he would be patient with his recruitment.

"I'll probably have a signing day decision," Dawson said. "I don't really know about plans yet."

One thing working in USC's favor is Dawson's willingness to travel to find the right fit for his future.

"The distance won't be a factor for me," Dawson said. "I just want to find a place where I feel comfortable with the players and the coaches."
