Would Nation's No. 2 Player Be the Choice?

The Mailbag is a SoonerScoop.com feature for our fans to get questions that may require a little more depth and clarity of explanation directly from assistant editor Josh McCuistion. Each week we'll field questions for the mailbag and get you all answers at the week's end!

This week's mailbag has a normal plethora of topics but there is no denying that fans were anxious to spin out some hypotheticals. What would it mean to Sooner recruiting should Oklahoma land Dorial Green-Beckham, the nation's No. 1 player? If Oklahoma could have any defensive lineman, who would it be? Find the answers to these questions as well as many more in this Sunday's version of The Mailbag.

Do we still have the "pipeline" in Las Vegas? Also, any new San Diego or 'SoCal' athletes?

- Dustin

At this point I'd say any pipeline that had been built in Las Vegas, or in Gorman, is now dead. When you consider that the only recruits Oklahoma has truly pursued in the region since landing Demarco Murray in the class of 2006 are current USC tight end Xavier Grimble and now-departed Sooner signing Justin Chaisson. Obviously those two didn't turn out as hoped and it's doubtful anyone outside of Gorman can remember a player signing with Oklahoma.

The most interesting part is that it's not just that the players have turned their interest away from the Sooners but Oklahoma just isn't even overly involved at Gorman these days.

It's worth saying that all these things may be turning with Oklahoma seemingly putting some real effort into Ronnie Stanley. HoweverI don't foresee much coming out of that and Oklahoma seemed uninterested in him until the early summer. Now that may be due to Bruce Kittle taking some time to get settled in and identify his guys -which would be an entirely reasonable thing- or it may not. I suppose we'll know more in the next few years as we saw last night Gorman has plenty of young guys for Oklahoma to look for in the years to come.

As far as San Diego and Southern California, there are always going to be plenty of guys to take note of at those school in this year's class Ellis McCarthy, Kyle Murphy, Jordan Payton, and Derrick Woods. And while I think Oklahoma is very possible to receive an official visit from both Murphy and Payton I'm not sure I'd bet on either becoming Sooners.

In the years to come I'd keep an eye on Su'a Cravens and Kelly Hilinski along with a few others who Oklahoma is going to having a looking at this fall - names like Troy Williams/db], [db]Hayden Rettig, John Lopez and several others.
