At Saturday's Mark Richt Mini Camp, Oak Leaf (Orange Park, Fla.) linebacker Darrion Owens stood out like a sore thumb and in a good way.

At 6-foot-4, 217-pounds, Owens possesses incredible length to go with a great combination of athleticism and explosivness.

Owens, who played safety in 2012, looked so good in his movement and on the hoof that Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham worked with him a little in a one-on-one situation to see what he could do as an edge rusher.

"Coach Grantham wanted to see how I was with my pass rush. They want me to play outside linebacker, so he wanted to see what I could do in that workout."

Apparently, Grantham liked what he saw as the three-star prospect was escorted up to Mark Richt's office as the mini camp concluded, and he was given a piece of good news.

"I talked to Coach Mark Richt, the Head Coach, up in his office, and he let me know I have an offer from Georgia," he said. "I was working out with Coach (Todd) Grantham and they wanted me to go see the Head Coach. Coach Richt told me that I could do a lot of things for them on defense and that I could be a Jarvis Jones type player on the outside."

Georgia is one of a number of big time programs that have extended an offer to the North Florida standout in the last few months, but the offer from the Bulldogs is one that Owens is quite happy to have received.

"I really feel good about the offer. I'm excited about it," Owens said. "I've always watched Georgia every time they came on T.V. I've always liked Georgia a lot. They are a great school and they have a great defense. All of the coaches look like they are great coaches and all, too. I mean, Georgia is up at the top for me and I can't really think of who is up there with them (UGA) right now. Georgia is up there, though."

So what other schools are in the mix for Owens services?

"I like Auburn and Michigan a lot," he said. "They have been recruiting me hard. Ohio State, too. I don't know when I'm going to visit though."

While he isn't sure about visits or what schools are in line host him in the near future, Owens has an idea of when he wants to end his recruitment.

"I will probably have a decision or something this fall," he said. "I want to take some official visits and go from there.
