Swope excited after A&M visit
Austin Westlake athlete Ryan Swope may be the most versatile athlete in Texas A&M's 2009 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Swope lined up at running back, in the slot, at wide receiver and even as a kick returner for the 9-4 Chaparrals.
And no matter where Swope lines up, he's sure to make an impact at that position.
As a running back, Swope rushed for 1,826 yards and 27 touchdowns at 7.9 yards per clip. As a receiver, he averaged over 20 yards per reception on 21 catches. In a playoff game against Harlingen, he ran the opening kickoff back 97 yards for a touchdown. After Harlingen responded with a squib kickoff after its next score to avoid another long runback, Swope ran it back for another touchdown anyway.
In fact, unlike most prospects, Swope doesn't just meet with an A&M coach to talk about the Aggies' offense. He typically talks to both running backs coach Randy Jordan and offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Nolan Cromwell.
Swope committed to Texas A&M over scholarship offers from Texas Tech, Baylor, Colorado State and Duke and heavy interest from Texas.
