Versatile 2011 star picks up two offers

Texas A&M has been very aggressive in extending offers to the class of 2010 this spring. It's paid off not only in their ability to get prospects on campus but has also translated into 16 commitments so far. Not only that, there's been quality in the class with four-star prospects Ben Malena, Luke Joeckel and Cedric Ogbuehi.

In fact, by obtaining so many commitments so early prior to February 2010, it's enabled the Aggie coaches to not only narrow its focus on its remaining spots in this class but also to begin to evaluate members of the class of 2011. As a result, A&M has already started offering prospects based upon film study and visits to high school campuses.

One of the first verbal offers in the class went out Monday to Cleveland (TX) sophomore defensive end Cedric Reed. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound junior-to-be is slated to be perhaps the top defensive end in the state next season given his combination of athleticism - he averaged 19.4 points as a center in basketball this past season and has thrown the discus over 140 feet - and production - he had 11 sacks as a sophomore. He has also obtained an offer from Missouri so far this spring.
