OU becomes first offer for 2011 defender
Oklahoma has seen an impact made early on in the career of Demontre Hurst out of Lancaster (Texas) High School. The freshman cornerback is already making plays on the big stage and that success should make the Sooners feel that much better about having another Lancaster product committed out of the 2010 class in safety Quentin Hayes.
The Sooners may not be done yet.
2011 Lancaster linebacker Trey Brown is one of the top junior linebackers in the state of Texas. Recently, Oklahoma became the first school to offer the defensive standout.
"I talked to Coach Wilson about last Friday on game day over the phone and he just told me a lot of great stuff about Oklahoma so that really drove my interest towards the school," Brown said. "So then he told (Lancaster Recruiting Coordinator) Coach Fletcher that they were sending me an offer."
Due to his teammates' interest in the Oklahoma program, Brown has some familiarity but that familiarity only added to his excitement about the first offer. He also has a family tie that added to the enjoyment.
"It was my first offer and I was overwhelmed," he said. "It was crazy. I was real excited. I think it's a great program for them to go to two BCS Bowls in a row. My dad, that was his alma mater. He loved it. So I'm trying to follow in his footsteps and dreams."
Along with Oklahoma, Brown has received interest from Florida State, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech, LSU and Oregon. There are a few schools in particular that he hopes to add to his offer list.
"I'd like to get an offer from Oklahoma State," he said. "I've got my eye on Texas Tech and I've always loved Florida State. I've always been in Texas all my life and Florida State, their defense I just love it. I like their tradition."
On the field this season, Brown is playing all three linebacker spots and even getting spot duty at fullback in helping his team out to a 2-2 start. He is averaging 10 tackles a game during that four game stretch.
With defensive standouts pouring out the doors at Lancaster, Brown looks to be the next in line.
