Spence takes in Mickies, practice
During his second unofficial visit to Madison, Shelby Spence ate at one of the more unique and popular restaurants in the city.
The 2014 quarterback stopped at Mickies Dairy Bar, just a short distance from Camp Randall Stadium.
"It was a really nice place," Spence told BadgerBlitz.com Saturday afternoon. "I really haven't seen anything like it before.
"The food was amazing there."
After breakfast, the 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore from Chicago took in Wisconsin's second spring practice.
"We got up for the early drive and were able to see the team's practice," Spence said. "I had a chance to talk with coach (Matt) Canada and coach (Bret) Bielema. I got to see what the new offense looked like with coach Canada in charge.
"Coach Canada was pretty enthusiastic about the program and he wants to keep Wisconsin going in the right direction. He talked about the attention to detail he focuses on in practice. He really wants to see me throw live in the near future."
Spence also had a chance to speak with Bielema, who wants to see him in camp this summer.
"Coach just reiterated what was going on with the offense moving forward," Spence said. "He wants to get me in for a camp this June, which is something I plan on doing.
"It was good to catch up with him again."
This was a rather important recruiting weekend for the Badgers with a number of prospects in attendance Saturday. Arguably the biggest was former Maryland quarterback Danny O'Brien, who is looking for a school to enroll in this summer.
"I didn't get a chance to talk with a lot of the recruits there but I meet O'Brien's mother," Spence said.
In the next few weeks, Spence will make visits to Northwestern, Notre Dame and Miami.
Both of Spence's parents are Notre Dame alumni.
