A Look Back at the Class of 2000

1) WR - BJ Johnson

Through 2002: A three-year starter, Johnson has been a very solid player for the Longhorns thus far during his career, but has yet to develop into the superstar many expected him to be. As a junior, Johnson caught 40 passes for 603 yards and five touchdowns, which gives him a three-year total of 122 catches for 1,840 yards and 12 touchdowns. He currently ranks 5th in career receptions, 5th in receiving yards and 6th in receiving touchdowns for the Longhorns.

2) WR - Roy Williams

Through 2002: A three-year starter for the Longhorns, Williams has developed into one of college football’s top playmakers. As a junior, Williams battled nagging injuries, but still caught 64 passes for 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns. As he heads into his senior season at UT, Williams will likely break ever career receiving record in Longhorn history, as he current ranks third in receptions (171), 2nd in receiving yards (2,787) and first in touchdown receptions (27).
3) CB - Lawrence Richardson

Through 2002: A terrific cover corner, Richardson has been one of the SEC’s top cornerbacks for the last two seasons after having sat out the 2000 season for academic reasons. His 20 pass deflections in 2001 led the SAEC and his three interceptions were a team-high.
4) WR - Sloan Thomas

Through 2002: As the third member of the “Big 3”, Thomas has quietly put up some very nice numbers during his three years in Austin. As a junior, injuries limited Thomas to 30 receptions for 383 yards and two touchdowns. In three seasons at Texas, Thomas has recorded 68 receptions for 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns.
5) QB - Chance Mock

Through 2002: Mock has yet to see any meaningful action at Texas, but will head into his junior season next year as the favorite to win the Longhorn’s starting quarterback position.
 
 
6) RB - Tyson Thompson

Through 2002: Didn’t qualify academically in 2000 and was forced to spend two seasons at Garden City Community College. Recently signed with San Jose State and will compete for the starting tailback position this spring.
 
7) DL - Sonny Davis

Through 2002: After not qualifying in 2000, Davis spent two seasons at a junior college in Mississippi, where he earned all-conference honors during both seasons. Davis re-committed to the Longhorns last season, but did not have the needed grades to qualify and is not currently with a Division I school.
8) TE - Brock Edwards

Through 2002: Edwards became a full-time starter for the first time during his career this season and led all Longhorn tight ends with 16 receptions for 258 yards and a touchdown. A terrific blocker, Edwards has started 19 games during his collegiate career and is expected to be one of the Big 12’s top tight ends in 2003.
9) OL - Chris Boggas

Through 2002: Has struggled to achieve the kind of success that one would expect from the state’s top-rated offensive line prospect and is currently a back-up guard for the Wildcats.

Through 2002: A two-year starter for the Longhorns, Vasher earned All-Big 12 honors at safety as a sophomore before replacing Quentin Jammer at cornerback in 2002. Through the first three seasons at Texas, Vasher has intercepted 11 passes, which ranks eighth on the Longhorn’s all-time career list. As a senior, he’ll likely be one of the top pr-eseason candidates for the Jim Thorpe Award.
 
11) DB - Adrian Mayes

Through 2002: Although he still has the physical talent to be an impact player in the SEC, Mayes has yet to play with the consistency needed to see regular action and has been regulated to back-up status at safety thus far in his career with the Tigers.
12) LB - Devaughn Darling

Through 2002: Contributed on the two-deep as a true freshman for the Seminoles before passing away during off-season workouts following his freshman season.
13) CB - Adam Black
     Houston Cy Falls
     Signed with Texas A&M
Through 2002: The keep piece of the 2000 recruiting class for Texas A&M, injuries ended Black’s career at A&M before it ever got started.
14) DB - Ben Emanuel

Through 2002: In his first season as a starter in 2002, Emanuel finished fourth on the team in tackles with 58 and led all Bruins with four interceptions.
15) DL - Linnis Smith

     Signed with Texas A&M
Through 2002: Emerged as a solid starter for the Aggies during his junior season, recording 60 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and three sacks in 2002.
16) OL - Lionel Garr

Through 2002: Spent his sophomore season with the Longhorns this past year in reserve duty and has yet to make a big impact for the Longhorns.
17) RB - Vontez Duff
     Copperas Cove
     Signed with Notre Dame
Through 2002: As a junior this season, Duff emerged as one of the top young cornerbacks and return men in the college game. For the season, Duff recorded 36 tackles and an interception from his cornerback spot, while averaging almost 28 yards per kick return. Duff will likely be an All-American candidate heading into his senior season.11

Through 2002: Is playing tight end for the Razorbacks and caught four passes for 37 yards in reserve duty during his sophomore season last year.

Through 2002: Holiday was the heart and soul of the Irish offense this year. Despite missing some time due to injuries, Holiday 1,788 yards and 10 touchdowns, while adding another 200 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Holiday
20) RB - Keith Joseph

Through 2002: Has been given a chance at various times during his career to take the running back position at A&M by the horns, but has never been able to do so. After rushing for 371 yards and four touchdowns as a redshirt freshman, Jopseph was limited to 18 yards on six carries during his sophomore season.
21) RB - Tatum Bell

     Signed with Oklahoma St.
Through 2002: Emerged as one of the Big 12’s best running backs during his junior campaign, rushing for 1,096 yards and 11 touchdowns.
22) WR - Omar Jenkins

       Signed with Notre Dame
Through 2002: Started 12 games during his junior season at South Bend and was second on the team with 37 receptions for 633 yards and three touchdowns.
 
23) CB - Dawon Gentry

Through 2002: Injuries have really hampered Gentry throughout his career with the Aggies. After missing five games in 2001 with a herniated disk problem, the talented defensive back missed the entire 2002 season. Thus far in his career, he’s only recorded eight career tackles and one interception.
 
24) LB - Derrick Pope

     Signed with TCU
Through 2002: After failing to qualify academically out of high school, Pope earned JUCO All-American honors and then signed with Alabama last year. In his first season at Bama, Pope was fifth on the team with 65 tackles.
25) Luke McCown

Signed with Louisiana Tech
Through 2002: Has been a three-year starter for the Bulldogs. Threw for 3,539 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. In his career thus far, McCown has thrown for 9,748 yards and 69 touchdown, as well as 51 interceptions.
 
 
26) WR - JT Thompson

      Signed with Kansas
Through 2002: Failed to qualify out of high school. And spent two seasons at Kilgore Junior College before signing with Baylor last season. Started one game this season and caught 16 passes for 133 yards.
 
 
 
27) QB - Dustin Long

Through 2002: Saw his first action of his career in 2002 and produced a mixed bag of results. Fr the season, he threw for more than 2,500 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also throwing 16 interceptions. Will battle talented sophomore Reggie McNeal for A&M starting position this off-season.
28) RB - Jimmy Dixon

Through 2002: Played in 12 games this season for the Yellow Jackets as a reserve. Has scored four touchdowns in two seasons at Tech.

Through 2002: Played in 12 games during his sophomore season and recorded 36 tackles and four tackles for loss in a reserve roll.
30) DB - Marvyn Godbolt

Through 2002: Has been one of the Horned Frogs top defensive players for the past two seasons. After earning freshman all-American honors in 2001, Godbolt recorded 28 tackles and two interceptions this season.
31) LB - John Garrett

Through 2002: Has been the top Baylor defender since he arrived on campus, but missed the 2002 season due to a torn ACL. Earned freshman all-American honors in 2000 and would have been a candidate for All Big 12 honors this season if not for the injury.
32) LB - Jimmy Wilkerson

Through 2002: A two-year starter for the Sooners, Wilkerson recorded 46 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and six sacks as a junior. Earned All-Big 12 honors in 2001. Declared for the NFL Draft following the 2002 season.

Through 2002: This West Texas star only last one season at Texas before deciding to transfer to Abilene Christian.

Through 2002: Another top-rated defensive line prospect that did not qualify out of high school, spend a year at Hinds (MS) Junior College and is now at Midwestern State. Recorded five tackles and two tackles for loss this season.
35) RB - Joey Harris

Through 2002: Emerged as one of the Big 12’s best backs in this season by rushing for 1,115 yards and eight touchdowns during his junior season.
36) CB - Emmanuel Franklin

Through 2002: Started six games as a true freshman in 2001, but was forced to sit out the entire 2002 season after suffering a concussion last spring and having skull surgery.
37) DT - Eddie Brown

Through 2002: After not qualifying out of high school, Brown spent two seasons at Blinn Junior College, but has yet to make an impact at the Division I level.
38) CB - Jonte Buhl

Through 2002: Missed the entire 2002 season because an ACL injury that he suffered in A&M’s 2001 bowl game against TCU. Through his first two seasons at A&M, Buhl proved to be a very solid back-up with a lot of upside, as he recorded 40 tackles and an interception in his first two seasons at A&M.
 
39) DE - Kalen Thornton

Through 2002: A three-years starter, Thornton has been one of the Big 12’s top defensive linemen since from the moment he first suited up for Texas. After two very strong seasons to start his career, Thornton struggled a bit in 2002 as he battled back from an ACL injury that he suffered at the end of his sophomore season. During his career thus far, Thornton has recorded 10 sacks, 24 tackles for loss and 54 quarterback pressures.
40) Ath - Tony Jeffery

Through 2002: Jeffery has been a back-up for the past two seasons for the Longhorns after red-shirting in 2002. This season, Jeffery caught 11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.
41) OL - Ray Willis

Through 2002: Started eight games this season at tackle during his sophomore season in 2002. During his first redshirt freshman season in 2001, Willis played in every game for the Seminoles and didn’t allow a sack all season.

Through 2002: Has seen very limited action with the Sooners since signing three years ago.
43) RB - Jerad Estus

Through 2002: Played in five games this year as a reserve and rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

Through 2002: Saw his playing time increase heavily during his sophomore season in 2002 as he emerged as the starting center for the Aggies. Figures to be one of the anchors on the A&M line for the next two seasons.

Through 2002: People led all Sooner receivers this season with 39 receptions for 571 yards in his first season of extensive playing time. As a redshirt freshman in 2001, Peoples was one of the team’s top special team standouts.
46) DB - Jonas Buckles

Through 2002: Has earned all-conference honors for two consecutive seasons for the Green Wave. Recorded 46 tackles and two interceptions as a junior.
47) ATH - Roger Jordan

Through 2002: Caught 23 passes for 207 yards during his junior season with the Wildcats. Has been a spot starter for Northwestern since his freshman season, but is still waiting for a breakout season.

Through 2002: Saw his first action this season as a sophomore and caught 13 passes for 205 yards.

Through 2002: Not sure where Ansley is at the moment. Didn’t qualify out of high school and after spending a season at a prep school, he showed up at Abilene Christian, but is no longer with the program.

Through 2002: Has been a reserve running back for the Wildcats for the past two seasons and yet to letter.
53) DB - Garron Bible

Through 2002: Played in a13 games for the Irish this season and recorded 32 tackles and a sack during his junior season. Has split time as the starting strong safety for the Irish for the past two seasons.

Through 2002: After failing to qualify academically out of high school, Gill earned honorable mention all-conference honors at Blinn Junior College for two seasons, but is not playing at the Division I level right now.

Through 2002: Started two games during his junior year this season, but caught only two passes for 15 yards. Has seen limited action thus far during his career.

Through 2002: Has been one of the Pac-10’s best running backs since he arrived on campus in 2000. Had his junior season cut short due to injuries this season, but still finished with 309 yards and two touchdowns in four games. Led the Pac-10 in rushing as a sophomore with 1,229 yards, which is the fourth highest single-season total in Arizona history.

Through 2002: Is now playing for Texas Southern and finished this past season with more than 300 yards rushing.

Through 2002: Played in eight games this season as a reserve fullback and had seven carries for 25 yards.

Through 2002: Has been a very solid player for the Bears over the last two seasons. Started 12 games this year and recorded 45 tackles and four pass break-ups.
98) WR - Nehemiah Glover

Through 2002: Emerged as a big-play weapon for the Red Raiders this season, catching 52 passes for 673 yards and 10 touchdowns. In his two seasons at Tech, Glover has caught 84 passes for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Through 2002: After seeing extensive action through the first two seasons at Kansas, Kinsey was thrown off the team because of legal issues. Transferred to Sam Houston State and is now a starter on their basketball team.
