Daniel Cruz will be in Austin later this month and again for an official visit in June.

Offensive lineman Daniel Cruz has been a priority target for the Texas Longhorns for some time and he’s been a regular visitor to the Forty Acres, including a stop in January for a UT Junior Day. Cruz, out of North Richland Hills, has two more visits to Texas on his calendar.

“I have Texas coming up (on March 25),” Cruz said. “That’s one of the visits I have right now. I still have to plan out some other ones, but for right now, it’s Texas for a spring practice.”

Cruz told Orangeblods that he’d like to get down to Texas A&M for a visit as well, but that trip has not been set up. He added that he’s trying to think of some other visits for this spring. Looking further into the future, he’s begun working out the details of his official visits.

“I have Texas right now (June 23) but I’m still trying to figure out the other four. Ohio State is probably going to be one,” Cruz said. “So Texas and Ohio State right now.”

The 6-4, 287-pound Cruz has built a very strong relationship with Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood, and he said it’s the bond those two have that has him booking return trips to Austin.

“It’s just coach Flood that’s bringing me back and the relationship that I have with the staff over there,” Cruz said. “That’s what keeps bringing me back to Texas.”

Cruz hasn’t released a formal list of favorite programs, but if/when he does, the Longhorns will almost certainly make the cut.

“They’re top five for me, obviously. They’re up there for me,” Cruz said.

Texas is recruiting Cruz as a center, and he and Kyle Flood stay in regular contact, talking a couple times each week. Their already strong relationship should continue to build with the upcoming visits to Austin.

“He’s just showing me clips of offensive line drills over there, stuff that they’re working on, things I can get better at,” Cruz said of his contact with Flood.

A four-star prospect, Cruz plans to have a decision by the end of this summer.
