Cornerback Josh Thompson has been committed to TCU since June 12, but that hasn't stopped other programs from recruiting the Nacogdoches prospect.

Last weekend, Thompson camped at Texas for the Longhorns annual Under the Lights event. Coming into the event, he told Orangebloods.com that if Texas extended a scholarship offer, he didn't know how he would respond but it would "be a decision (he) would have to look at."

That UT offer came in on Sunday, and three days later, Thompson has made a tough decision - he's flipping his commitment from TCU to Texas.

"Basically it's just that I know they're a growing program," Thompson said about making the decision to flip to Texas. "I just love the atmosphere there. I feel at home there."

Recently, current Longhorn commitments had been putting in extra work to get Texas to offer Thompson and to get Thompson to flip once the UT offer was extended. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger started a #WeWantJosh campaign after playing with Thompson at The Opening and the movement began to pick up steam on social media over the last week. At the Under the Lights camp on Saturday night, Thompson worked out in front of the coaches but also got to hang around some of the recruits who will now become future teammates.

"It was fun. I was just getting a good relationship with the players there, just finding out the atmosphere a little more," Thompson said.

A former high school teammate of current Texas freshman Brandon Jones, Thompson has seen his stock rise over the last month with a couple impressive camp performances. On Saturday night, under the watchful eye of the UT coaches, Thompson said he showed that he can match-up with the best.

"Basically I just showed my ability that I can play at any level, that I can compete," he said. "That was the main thing."

With his commitment to Texas now in the fold, Thompson said he plans to officially end the recruiting process and turn his attention to his senior season at Nacogdoches.

"I'll be shutting it down," Thompson said. "It feels great. I'm ready to carry on the tradition, help get a winning program going."

A 6-0, 183-pounder, Thompson is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. He becomes Texas' seventh commitment in the 2017 class and the Longhorns' third defensive back recruit, joining Kobe Boyce and Montrell Estell.
