Decision coming for QB Heard

On Thursday, August 2, the Texas Longhorn coaching staff let some of the nation's top 2014 prospects know they held official Texas offers. The lone quarterback in that group was Denton (Texas) Guyer signal caller Jerrod Heard.
The 6-2, 180-pound quarterback has been high on the Texas radar since evaluations began, and he was already approved for an offer. However, receiving official word from the Longhorns was still something that struck a chord with the 2014 talent.

"I got chills and got nervous, but I just knew I was doing something good," Heard said of his feeling upon receiving the offer. "I was very proud."
Over the weekend, Heard made his first visit to Texas since receiving the official offer, and he was able to sit and watch co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin put the quarterbacks through their paces. One thing really caught his attention.
"He fits what his quarterback can do," Heard said. "He fits around the quarterback so that's a real big plus."
Heard attended both morning and afternoon practices. The camaraderie between teammates really stood out, and there was one part of practice he enjoyed watching the most.
"The favorite part was the one-on-ones," Heard said. "That was my favorite part. Watching the receivers and DBs and the QBs. It was real good."
Entering the visit the Longhorns were thought to be in a good position and after returning home Heard says he has the Longhorns and two others high on his list.
"Texas, LSU, and Ohio St. Those are the top three right now. That's the order," Heard said.
What has those schools at the top?
"Just being a dominant school where they are," he said. "Ohio St. is probably the best school in the Big 10. In the SEC it's LSU. In the Big 12 it's Texas. Those are big schools and I think I can really fit in at these schools and get very good experience."
Now the big question is whether or not a decision could be coming?
"I'm going to talk to my parents tonight and talk about the schools I'm really interested in and hopefully I can make my decision soon," Heard said.
The standout quarterback did not make any promises as to how soon he could decide but did say a decision could be coming in the next week or two.
Of course, with the beginning of football practice, Heard is also focused on the upcoming football season and taking Guyer up another level.
"As a team we didn't have as good a year (last year), so this year we know we're going to come out with a statement and try to get that title," Heard said. "Right now we're working hard. This whole summer, me and the guys have been studying the plays, lifting weights. We're headed on the right track."
