Texas linebacker commitment De’Gabriel Floyd has been in Austin so much over the last 10 months that I’m not sure he could even tell you how many trips he’s made. Floyd, out of Westlake Village (CA), has been a regular visitor on the Forty Acres ever since committing to Texas back in March. Over the weekend, he was back yet again, this time for his official visit.

“It was pretty good. It wasn’t too much different,” Floyd said. “The only thing that really came over me this time was knowing that I only have a few more days until I’m out of high school and coming here.”

As an early enrollee, Floyd will finish up his days at Westlake Village this week. He’ll head Sacramento for Christmas, then to San Antonio in late December for the All-American Bowl and from there will head to Austin to spend time with family before beginning classes at Texas on January 22. Floyd’s been around Austin so much that he said he’s not nervous to begin the next chapter of his academic and athletic career. Instead he’s just excited to get started.

“I don’t know if I really felt any nerves. I never really had too much uncertainty or unsureness,” Floyd said. “I’m ready.”

Floyd participated in top national recruiting events like the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge and The Opening over the summer. He’s no stranger to big stages, and said he’s looking forward to having some fun during the week of the All-American Bowl.

“Honestly, I don’t really plan on showing too much. Feel like I had a really strong senior year. I showed I can do everything. I just plan on having fun at the game,” Floyd said. “I’m going to compete, of course, but mostly just have fun, try to make plays when I can, conserve my body, do a few things you wouldn’t normally see, maybe return a kick or something.”

Floyd was part of a group of Texas visitors from the weekend that included several other Longhorn commitments and as well as a couple uncommitted prospects. From his time around the other prospects and current UT team members, he said everyone seemed to have a good time.

“I just had a good weekend with everybody. I pretty much knew everybody that was there from other visits or recruiting events, things like that,” Floyd said. “We all just had a good time.”

With the days dwindling before Floyd officially joins the UT family, he said he feels as good as ever about his decision to wear burnt orange and white. Never once has he regretted his decision, and Floyd said Texas continues to check every box for him.

“I feel great. Everything is exactly what I wanted it to be,” Floyd said.

Floyd is ranked as a four-star prospect and a Rivals250 member.
