Future Horns: Cedric Baxter shows out

It was an eventful week for Texas commits around the Lone Star State and beyond. From Johntay Cook showing off his playmaking skills to Arch Manning throwing touchdowns, there was a lot that happened on Labor Day Weekend.

Arch Manning kicked off his senior season with a bang, as Isidore Newman knocked off Hahnville 35-14. Manning picked up where he left off last season and threw multiple touchdowns in the week one victory.

Cedric Baxter and Edgewater are 2-0 on the season after a 34-10 win over Don Bosco Prep on Friday night. The four-star back ran for 272 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries as he continues to put up big numbers in the Sunshine State.

Tre Wisner and DeSoto fell to nationally ranked St. Frances Academy on Saturday in Ft. Worth. Wisner opened the game with a big kickoff return to set the Eagles up for the first points of the game.

Johntay Cook followed up the Wisner kick return with a touchdown reception of his own, as he has found the end zone in both games so far to start the season. Both Wisner and Cook take on Malik Muhammad and Billy Walton this upcoming Saturday.

Jonah Wilson and DeKaney pulled off a nail biting 41-38 win on Friday night over Strake Jesuit. Wilson showed off his catch radius during the game and came down with a big touchdown in the victory.

There wasn’t a lot going on for Ryan Niblett on Friday night, as his Eisenhower squad fell to Conroe. So, check out this play from week one:

Spencer Shannon and Mater Dei are 3-0 on the season after a 43-20 win over Centennial (Calif.) on Friday. Shannon made the trip down to Austin for the Longhorns’ season opener on Saturday.

Will Randle turned in a strong performance to kickoff his senior season at Isidore Newman. The Texas commit hauled in a touchdown reception from Manning and even took back an interception for a touchdown.

Connor Stroh and Frisco Wakeland defeated Brewer 28-6 on Friday night. Here’s a couple of clips from Stroh’s outing:

Andre Cojoe and Mansfield Timberview won in big fashion over Sam Houston, 69-14.

Jaydon Chatman and Harker Heights defeated Smithson Valley 27-14 on Friday.

Trevor Goosby and Melissa fell to China Springs 42-41 in a game that went down to the wire.

Payton Kirkland and Dr. Phillip’s lost to Timber Creek (Fla.) 24-22. He was honored as an All-American this week.

Sydir Mitchell and Bergen Catholic took down Saguaro (Ariz.) 28-7 on Friday. Mitchell and the BC defense held Saguaro scoreless until the final quarter.

Dylan Spencer and CE King fell to Allen on Friday night. Spencer had some nice plays in run support and certainly looks the part at defensive end.

Billy Walton and South Oak Cliff dropped Friday night’s clash against Lancaster. Walton had five tackles in the performance. SOC takes on DeSoto on Saturday.

S’Maje Burrell and the North Crowley defense held Arlington to 14 points in the week two win. Up next is an intriguing matchup against a high-powered Lovejoy offense on Thursday.

Liona Lefau and Kahuku (Hawaii) squad improved to 3-0 after a 27-20 win this past weekend.

Malik Muhammad had four tackles and a pass breakup in South Oak Cliff’s game against Lancaster. A matchup against Johntay Cook is on deck in what should be an exciting battle between two Texas pledges.

Jamel Johnson and Seguin fell to Red Oak on Friday 35-25.

Derek Williams and Westgate kicked the season off in dominant fashion, winning 47-0.

2024 Commits

Jaden Allen and Aledo fell to Denton Guyer last week but Allen had a solid showing against a potent Guyer passing attack.

Aeryn Hampton showed off his two-way ability in Daingerfield’s Thursday night victory. He came away with this 70+ yard touchdown and was open downfield all night long.

Newest Texas commit Hunter Moddon announced his pledge to the Longhorns on Friday afternoon. Hours later, he grabbed an interception for Clear Lake.
