College coaches are busy preparing for the home stretch of the 2017 recruiting season, and while securing commitments from seniors is the top priority, a handful of elite 2018 prospects are also seeing a flurry of recruiting activity in the way of attention from coaches or scholarship offers.

Defensive back Trent Gordon certainly falls into the mix of top 2018 prospects who has seen his stock shoot through the roof of late. In fact, the Manvel product picked up his first offer - from LSU - and it's been a flurry of activity since, with Texas A&M, Kentucky and Cal also extending offers.

The scholarship offers have been a long time coming for Gordon, who recently finished up his first season with Manvel after transferring from Oak Ridge High School in Conroe.

"I was really at a loss for words when they called me, said they were going to offer me," Gordon said about getting his first offer from LSU. "I didn't know how to act. I didn't get to tell anybody until a few hours after I got the offer but after that, I told everyone. I was feeling good about it. It was great."

The 6-0, 175-pound Gordon has been on recruiting radars for a while and he performed well during camps in the spring and summer, including a Rivals.com camp. But most schools wanted to evaluate his junior season before making a decision on an offer. Now that colleges have had a chance to watch the tape, which features Gordon making plays in the passing game and delivering big hits, teams have taken notice.

"It feels like all my hard work is finally paying off," Gordon said. "I think it was this year's film (that caused the recent run of offers). My sophomore film, everybody was like, he's pretty good, but not good enough just yet. When it came to my junior film, I was hitting and getting picks, I think people liked that."

Along with the schools that have offered, TCU and Louisville have been showing interest. The current Texas coaches, including assistant coach Jason Washington, was keeping tabs on Gordon while they were at Houston so Gordon is hopeful the Longhorns will pick up their interest soon.

"I feel like since there's a new head coach, they're probably going to restart the recruiting process for me. I don't know though. They weren't heavily recruiting me like I had hoped (under the previous staff), but ever since the new coach came in, I'm thinking they may start looking at me again," Gordon said. "Coach Washington was recruiting me at Houston, and since they're at UT now I guess they may be recruiting me there too."

The new offers have given Gordon a lot to think about, but he said he wants to wait things out for a while before coming to a decision next fall.

"I'm definitely in no rush at all. I'm going to sit and wait, then when it comes time my senior year in the fall, that's when I'd like to commit."
