Dink Pate is a high-riser in the Rivals Top 100 lately as the highest-rated four-star in the class. The 6'7 guard prospect is an elite scorer and great athlete with size for his position. I caught up with him late last week.
KW: First things first, who are some of the offers you're most interested in?
DP: I got an Auburn offer last weekend. UCF, TCU, Arizona, Arizona State, U of H, Texas, and Texas Tech.
KW: If some one had never seen you play before, what do you think would stick out about your game to them?
DP: Most likely the advantage I have in my height, seeing over other players. I can shoot, I can score, but I can also pass the ball and facilitate. I can take control of a game in order for us to win. And I do like to win. I'm very competitive.
KW: What kind of players do you model your game after? Do you look at guys like Jaylen Brown, wings who can shoot?
DP: Mostly Paul George, Kevin Durant, and Penny Hardaway, and LaMelo Ball.
KW: What kind of skills have you honed recently, as in the last few months? What have you worked hardest on?
DP: Shooting, handling the ball, and a lot of conditioning. I've been in the weight room pretty heavy too. Mostly the physicality of my game.
KW: What do you think about Texas? What has stuck out to you there?
DP: Coach Beard, I've talked to him a couple of times. Cool coach. I've talked to Arterio Morris too, he said Texas is a great program. I also talked to Dillon Mitchell some as well.
KW: Who else is at the top for you?
DP: Auburn. I really like Auburn. I was pretty shocked when I got an offer from them. I mean, Jabari Smith just went first round. That was great, honestly.
KW: Last question before I let you go. What are you trying to get out of the recruiting process?
DP: I want more offers to come, but I'm really just looking for a school that has a coach that knows me very well, and me and him have a good relationship who knows I'm a guard and plays me like a guard instead of a big man, and believes what I can do on the court, and has faith in me.
