Butler County Community College defensive end Jacoby Jones officially re-opened his recruitment early last week. He took an official visit to see the University of Texas a few days later, including watching the Longhorns dismantle Iowa State. That visit was all Jones needed to see, and on Wednesday he gave Texas a verbal commitment.

“I want to start my own story. I want to keep my story going, and I want to get it going at the University of Texas,” Jones told Orangebloods.com.

The 6-4, 250-pound Jones was trending Texas’ way before he took his visit to the Forty Acres last weekend, and he actually made up his mind while in Austin. Jones told people on the visit he would be committing to Texas, and it was only a matter of when he’d go public. He decided to let everyone know of his intentions on Wednesday. He’s now ready to prove all those wrong who have doubted him over the years.

“I came from nothing. I was doubted a lot. My ultimate goal is to prove everybody wrong,” Jones said. “People didn’t think I could do it. As an individual, my grades, I had to go to JUCO. Now it’s all worked out in the long run.”

Along with Texas, Jones was strongly considering Oregon and Oklahoma. He said his official visit to Texas over the weekend, particularly the atmosphere at the game, was enough to close the deal.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it,” Jones said. “DKR was a good atmosphere to be in. It was 100,000 people, so it was pretty loud. I saw the defense, they played well. Coach (Todd) Orlando, he’s a good defensive coordinator.”

When Jones says he plans to make a big impact at Texas, he means it. He compares his play to Jadeveon Clown and Khalil Mack, and said he’s ready to disrupt offenses in the Big 12.

“I’m going to bring that aggressiveness, that pass rush,” Jones said. “Quarterbacks are not going to have time when I’m on the field. I’m going to bring that dog.”

Jones is the Longhorns’ 22nd commitment in the 2019 recruiting class.
