JUCO DE Quincy Vasser picks Texas

Navarro Junior College defensive end Quincy Vasser had been committed to Georgia for more than nine months, but things changed recently and Vasser officially opened up his recruitment on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, the talented defender put a sudden end to the recruiting process, giving the Texas Longhorns a commitment.

The news of Vasser's decision is a big coup for a Longhorn program in need of players who can contribute immediately along the defensive line. At 6-4 and 265 pounds, Vasser will enter the Texas program in with a chance to next fall, lending depth to a Texas defensive end position that has little proven depth and will lose defensive end Cedric Reed to the NFL next year.
"He has a quick first step, but I wouldn't say he's speed guy off the edge that is going to overwhelm you with pass rush. But that can be worked on," said Rivals.com recruiting analyst Rob Cassidy. "He's one of those guys who has a ton of length despite being about 6-4. He plays a lot bigger than that. He has long arms and also has that pretty quick first step. He's also a guy you won't have to thicken up or put weight on since he has a good build already."
Vasser was in Austin last weekend for an unofficial visit and though he's kept away from the media since that trip, he has been active on social media, detailing how much he enjoyed the trip. Vasser had previously visited Texas for the Longhorns' spring game, which is where he first picked up his UT offer, and that visit made a strong impact as well.
A three-star prospect, Vasser had offers from Texas, Georgia and Maryland at the time of his commitment. Other programs, including Arizona State, were also showing interest.
"There's a reason we have him regarded the way we do and ranked No. 36 (overall JUCO prospect) in the country," Cassidy said. "He's one of best defensive ends in the class. It's not a particularly strong defensive end class, but he's up there pretty high near the top."
In committing to Texas, Vasser becomes the second player from Navarro J.C. in the last month to give the Longhorns a pledge, joining offensive lineman Tristan Nickelson.
A New York native, Vasser played one season at Hargrave Military Academy before enrolling at Navarro for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In 2013, he registered 26 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 12 games. This year he recorded 50 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Vasser plans to enroll at Texas in January and will have three years to play two seasons of football.
