Longhorns set to sign a historic class
If you rewind the clock back to January 4, 2006, you'll remember that in the immediate aftermath of the team's historic national title win over USC, Texas head coach Mack Brown went out of his way to thank the state's high school coaches for their help in getting the program back to the top.
With that elusive title finally in his possession, the consensus from most that cover recruiting was that the Longhorns would clean up in the year following their undefeated season.

So, in that brief moment before Brown thanked the rest of the world for their contributions to the biggest athletic achievement by a university in this state since the 1960s, Brown made sure that he buttered the bread of those that are constantly buttering his.
Thirteen months later and it's clear that the state's high school coaches aren't just ready to butter the bread on Wednesday, but they've got a full course meal in store for the entire Texas coaching staff.
The Longhorns are expected to sign 24 prospects beginning on Wednesday morning, with 23 of those signatures coming from the Lone Star State's very elite. If mere words aren't enough for you, there are plenty of numbers that can properly exhibit UT's dominance in recruiting.
In examining the Rivals' Top 100 list for the state of Texas, you'll find that 12 of the state's top 19 prospects are scheduled to sign with the Longhorns. To put that number in perspective, Oklahoma and Texas A&M both were limited to five commitments from player's ranked in the state top 50.

"Texas has done an exceptional job this year not only locking up some of the nation's top prospects, but doing it early," Rivals.com recruiting analyst John Talman said. "They continue to dominate in-state where it counts in the Big 12 South."
Overall, the Longhorns enter the day with the nation's No. 3 recruiting class, but they'll have to hold off a late surge by LSU and USC if they want to hold down that spot.
If one takes a strong look at this class he or she will find playmaker across the board, but the talent at the skill positions, the offensive line and in the secondary is where the real strength of this class lies.
Five-star cornerback Curtis Brown is the top prospect among a host of explosive athletes that includes commitments from 10 different prospects at the running back, wide receiver and defensive backs positions.
Up-front the offensive line is led by five-star offensive lineman Tray Allen and a trio of four star prospects that include Michael Huey, Aundre McGaskey and Kyle Hix. All four players are members of the Rivals National Top 250 list.
"The biggest thing that stands out to me is how solid the offensive line class is along with the defensive backs," Talman said. "Having prospects like Tray Allen and Curtis Brown lead the way along with more than six other four star prospects at that position is gaudy."
