Texas blanked New Mexico 45-0 in the second game of the season. The defense won the turnover battle,
Mykkele Thompson blocked a punt, and the D did not give up the big plays; while the offense improved with
David Ash having a career passing night and freshman
Daje Johnson debuting with a splash. Mack Brown was pleased with what he saw on the field, but is still looking for more explosive plays.
"We still need more but we're headed in the right direction. We're still looking to get more speed on the field and get speed in space, and get some explosive plays. That's our key right now."
Daje Johnson told
Mike Davis every time he (Daje) touches the ball, they're going to play the fight song. Johnson's second touch of the game was a 45 yard touch down.
"I told him that. I was joking, well not really but I guess I was right."
