Offer now in hand, Josh White looking forward to upcoming UT visit

Josh White will be in Austin this weekend for an unofficial visit.

Linebacker Josh White has been on the Texas campus before, but this weekend’s visit will be a bit different. The Cypress Creek standout picked up a UT offer a couple weeks ago, so this will be White’s first chance to really sit down with the Texas staff and truly envision himself as part of the Longhorn program.

“Me and coach (Todd) Orlando, we’re just going to sit, talk, we’re going to basically talk and look at the defense, see how I fit in it,” White said.

While this visit will be a bit different with White holding an offer, the Longhorns are not a new player to his recruitment, and white said UT is a school he’s always been following closely.

“Really I’m just taking it slow. But I’ve been taking UT seriously,” White said. “It’s one of the big in-state schools. Everything is just about what’s best for me and my family. It’s going to be a big decision in my life, so I want to make sure I’m making the right one.”

Currently, the upcoming Texas unofficial visit is the only trip on White’s list for this spring. White doesn’t have a formal list of how the schools he’s considering stack up, but he does admit the Longhorns are a school that he’ll strongly consider.

“I think Texas stands high in my big picture,” White said. “They’re a big in-state school so that would be good for me.

“I grew up in Texas. Me and coach Orlando, we’ve been building a good relationship ever since last year, the end of my sophomore season. Now we’re just keeping that going.”

Along with the Texas visit, White has taken recent visits to Oklahoma, LSU, Oklahoma State and Baylor. A one-time Oklahoma State commitment, White is keeping an open mind now that he’s back on the market, but said he’ll probably begin narrowing his focus in the near future.

“I’m going with the flow right now, not sure right now. But coming up soon, I’m going to sit down, start really looking at my options,” White said.

A 6-1, 205-pounder, White brings sprinter speed to the linebacker position (he runs the 200, 4X100 and 4X200 in track). He’s currently holding close to 30 scholarship offers and feels it’s a combination of his physical skills and mental make-up that has so many programs in hot pursuit.

“I feel like I bring speed, bring the ability to read offenses really well,” White said. “I feel like I’m really sound with my technique, know how to defeat blocks. I’m Really good at reading the o-line and making plays.”
