QB Trey Owens expects UT to add some commits during upcoming OV weekend

Trey Owens will take his Texas official visit on the weekend of June 23.

As a Rivals250 member, Texas commitment Trey Owens is already regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. The Cy-Fair standout led his team to a 10-win season in 2022 and he’s hoping for even bigger and better things this year. He and his teammates’ efforts began with spring football, which just ended last week.

“I really feel like our offense grew a lot. We have a lot of returners coming back,” Owens said. “We elevated our game, passed the ball a lot more. We lost our starting running back but our two returners should be able to fill in pretty easily. We have our full returning offensive line, so I feel like we should be really good next year”.

Individually, Owens said he had a couple of areas of his game that he wanted to focus on and he feels he made positive strides.

“I just felt like I kind of wanted to pretty much do the same thing as last year, but be more comfortable in the pocket,” Owens said. “And I’d probably say just my running, throwing on the run. I’d say I got a lot better, but it still needs work. Everything always needs work.”

On the recruiting front, Owens remains locked in with his Texas commitment. He’ll take his UT official visit on June 23, where he’ll get a chance to recruit some players on UT’s behalf.

“I talk to Parker Livingstone a lot, talk to Ory Williams out of San Marcos. I talked to him at the last junior day. I talk to Michael Uini a little bit,” Owens said. “I talk to a lot of people and retweet stuff on Twitter, but I’d say those three are probably the most frequent guys I talk to. Every time I’m up there, I’m actively talking to a lot of guys.”

Owens committed to Texas on January 11, his birthday, and he’s never looked back. He stays in regular contact with the UT staff and has developed a strong relationship with quarterbacks coach A.J. Milwee and head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“I talk to (Milwee) probably two or three times a week,” Owens said. “We just keep up with each other. I call coach Sark about once a month, just to check in, talk about any future plans. I’m really psyched about the official visit. We’ll have something like 23 guys going. I would expect some commitments too.”

Owens checks in at No. 235 on the Rivals250 and is ranked as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com.
