Rivals250 safety Lathan Ransom is already holding more than 25 scholarship offers. The Texas Longhorns are one of the teams that had been eyeing Ransom during the spring evaluation period and last week, Texas put an offer of its own on the table for the Tucson (AZ) Salpointe standout.

“They visited my school two times this spring. They were talking to me. I had one talk with the safeties coach the week before, talked on the phone,” Ransom said. “He told me they were going to offer me the next week and they kept their word and offered. I was super excited.”

The Texas offer is intriguing enough that Ransom said he and his father have already talked about making their way to Austin for a visit later this spring.

“We have some close friends out there in Austin. We went there when I was younger and I can’t wait to get back there soon,” Random said. “My dad and I have definitely been talking about it, maybe getting there around the end of May.”

Along with Texas, Ransom said schools like LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Stanford and Washington are all showing him quite a bit of past. As for the Longhorns, Ransom said it’s UT’s overall history of success that stands out.

“I know they have a great history of football. They’ve had great defenses in the past,” Ransom said. “And they had a great year last year beating Georgia. They’re definitely on the come up. Coach (Craig) Naivar has a great résumé putting DBs in the league.”

Ransom said he’ll likely take a couple official visits during the spring window and then likely save some for the fall. He doesn’t have a list of favorites and said he hasn’t thought about a timeline for when he’d like to have a commitment made.

Texas has also put an offer on the table for his teammate, running back Bijan Robinson. Ransom said the two have talked about going to college together, and Ransom has also discussed the topic with five-star CB Kelee Ringo, with whom he plays on the same 7 on 7 team. In addition to those conversations, Ransom said he’s aware of Texas’ increased efforts to recruit Arizona, including signing Jake Smith and Brayden Liebrock in the 2019 class.

“I saw that with both those two dudes. They talk very highly of it. That’s a big deal when a school is recruiting your area,” Ransom said.

The 6-1, 185-pound Ransom is ranked as a four-star prospect. He’s the nation’s No. 123-ranked prospect overall and the No. 8-ranked safety prospect.
