Star Califronia DE Hoping to Hear From Texas

This might sound like a broken record, but one of the big needs for the Longhorns in recruiting continues to be defensive ends. It was a huge need last year and the team missed out on several top in-state prospects, which has made it even more important that Mack Brown and his staff land several top prospects at the position this season.
With the loss of Allen, Texas defensive end Chris Smith to Texas A&M this weekend, it might be time for the staff to start looking across the country at some of the top national prospects at the position.

One top national prospect that does have an eye on the Texas program is Hacienda Heights (CA) Los Altos star Brigham Harwell.
After leading the state of California in sacks last season with 25, the 6-2, 245-pound Harwell is being courted by some of the top schools in the country.
"I just received an offer from Nebraska this week," Harwell said. "So far, I have offers from Nebraska, UCLA and Arizona."
According to Harwell, he's keeping an open mind to the recruiting process and is open to anyone and everyone that is recruiting him.
"Right now, I'm looking at colleges all over the world," an enthusiastic Harwell said. "I'll play anywhere if a school is interested in me. I'll play at Iowa State. I just want to go to a school that has a great caching staff and a great program. That's the main thing I'm looking for."
One school that might possibly fit that description is Texas.
"I like Texas," Harwell said. "It's been a while since I got anything from them, but yeah, I have an interest in them. I saw them play last year and they looked good. I know they have a great coaching staff, but I don't know that much about them, although since I'm originally from Houston, I would like to get to know more."
While Harwell is hoping to hear more from the Longhorns, other coaches from across the country are already doing everything in their power to lasso in this pass rushing phenom.
"They are all saying that I'm the best defensive end in the nation," Harwell said. "I work really hard, so it does feel good when I hear them say that. It just makes me want to work harder and make myself an even better player."
So, does Harwell have an early leader right now?
"I would say that UCLA is definitely in the lead," Harwell said. "They are recruiting me really hard."
