TE Vincent Hobbs talks UT visit

After flying under the radar for most of his senior year, Mesquite Horn tight end Vincent Hobbs has been one of the faster rising players in the Lone Star State. In the past couple months, Hobbs has picked up about a half-dozen offers and over the weekend, he took an official visit to Texas to get a look at the Longhorn program.
Hobbs came away impressed.

"What stood out was the family atmosphere. They have good people there," Hobbs said. "I already knew a couple people on the team when I got down there. Everyone is really cool with each other, they have a good time with each other."
Hobbs was hosted by Joe Bergeron on the visit and he got close look at the ins and outs of the UT program during the visit.
"They showed us a lot of the academic parts, where we'd be practicing, what they do at practice, basically the routine for the football team," Hobbs said. "We talked a lot throughout the whole weekend. Me and coach (Bruce) Chambers watched film on what the tight ends do and that kind of stuff.
"Today before I left, I had a talk with coach Chambers and Mack Brown. That's when they told me what's going on, how things are going to work."
And what did the Longhorns have to say about a possible scholarship offer for the 6-3, 230-pound Hobbs?
"They said they'll let me know by Wednesday or Thursday (on a possible offer)," Hobbs said. "Coach Mack Brown approved me and they had a staff meeting and they all approved me. If they can fit another scholarship in, then I've got it. If they can't, that's just how it goes."
Hobbs had talked previously about visiting Colorado next weekend, but it now looks like that trip may be scratched.
"I was planning on that one, but (Horn head) coach (Rodney) Webb and I are planning to talk about it tomorrow," Hobbs said. "I told coach Webb, if Texas doesn't offer, there's a pretty strong chance that I'm going to Memphis."
And if Texas does offer?
"If they give me the offer, I'm going to take it," Hobbs said.
With so much on the line, one might think that Hobbs will be sitting on pins and needles for the next few days. He admits that he's anxious to find out the outcome, but he's also taking everything in stride.
"I wouldn't say I'm nervous. I'm anxious. Obviously, if they offer, I'm going to be excited. If they don't, it's just business. It's nothing personal. I still like the staff there. I know it's nothing personal. It's business."
