It’ll be back to back years that the Texas Longhorns have dipped into the talent pool at Port Neches-Groves.

In the 2019 recruiting class, Texas pulled in quarterback Roschon Johnson from the PNG program. In 2020, it’ll be offensive lineman Jaylen Garth who will sign with the Longhorns after Garth gave Texas a verbal commitment on Saturday afternoon.

A talented offensive tackle prospect who had offers from some of the top programs in the nation, Garth made his commitment official while on the Texas campus for an unofficial visit.

“It’s just the program in general and I have gotten really close to the coaching staff,” Garth said about his decision to commit. “And I feel like they can develop me to the best of my potential.”

The 6-4, 270-pound Garth becomes the Longhorns’ fifth commitment in the 2020 class, joining quarterback Hudson Card and offensive linemen Logan Parr and Jake Majors.

For Garth, his decision has been trending UT’s way for a while. He’s been a repeat visitor to the Texas campus and said it’s a relief to be able to put an early end to the recruiting race.

“It feels good to be done with the whole process,” Garth said.

A three-star prospect, Garth chose Texas over offers from likes of Texas A&M, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU and Nebraska.
