Texas impresses Williams

Despite his early commitment to Nebraska, defensive end Josh Williams has become one of the hottest prospects in the Lone Star State. The Denton Ryan product remains a soft commit to the Huskers, but he's opened up his options in the wake of Nebraska's coaching uncertainty, and colleges have been trying their hardest to get their foot in the door for the blue-chip defender.

One program that's hot and heavy after Williams's talents is the Texas Longhorns, and Williams has been in contact with the Texas coaches for the past few months. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has taken in a couple of Longhorn home games this year, and he was again in the Capital City on Saturday for Texas's last home game of the season, a win over Texas Tech.

"It was great chemistry when I went down with the guys. I got to talk with some of the players after the game," said Williams. "The chemistry was good and I just felt good about the place.

Williams, who committed to the Huskers back in July, took his official visit to Nebraska back in September. He'll likely take more official visits later this year, but he's been busy of late on a tour of unofficial trips that have included stops in Stillwater and Austin. Williams attended Texas's game this weekend with the family of current Longhorn and former Denton Ryan defensive tackle Derek Lokey, and he said he came away impressed.

"It bumps Texas's chances. I've got a better feeling for the place after this weekend," he said. "My feelings kind of changed for them. It seems like a great place."

Denton Ryan starts playoff action this week in a game against Keller Fossil Ridge (and fellow defensive end R.J. Washington), and he's now going to turn his focus towards what he hopes will be a successful postseason run. Once his senior season ends, Williams will dive back into the recruiting scene.

"I'm going to wait until my season is over with first and go visit two or three places and then just go from there," said Williams, who mentioned that Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma State are the three schools that are most likely to get visits.

Recently, Williams reported picking up a verbal offer from the Texas coaches, and the topic was addressed again over the weekend.

"I got to talk with coach (Bobby) Kennedy and I got to talk to coach (Mack) Brown," Williams said. "They just pretty much let me know that the offer was there, there's no pressure and they want me to come play for them."
