Texas picks up big commitment from Brenham LB Marqez Bimage

It’s no secret that Tom Herman and the Texas staff have gone after players they recruited while they were at the University of Houston, flipping five players they recruited during their last stop.

On Friday, Brenham outside linebacker Marqez Bimage became the latest player to flip his verbal commitment to Tom Herman’s staff and the 13th member of the Longhorns’ 2017 class.

The 6-3, 223-pound outside linebacker has been a player that many believed would end up in Austin after announcing his decommitment from the University of Houston in December. Earlier this week, the Brenham product announced two finalists in Baylor and Texas and arranged official visits to both schools, but instead decided on Friday to pull the trigger and join the Texas class.

“The tradition, I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and it’s either you’re an Aggie or a Longhorn,” Bimage said about why he chose Texas. “I’m choosing to be a Longhorn. The fan base is absolutely awesome.”

After nearly a year-long commitment to Tom Herman when he was at Houston, Bimage said his relationships with the current Texas coaches helped shape his decision to give his commitment.

“Already know[ing] the coaches at Texas means so much,” Bimage said. “Building a relationship with them was key, it means a lot.”

When asked what he likes most about Herman and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando, Bimage said he’s impressed by both coaches’ energy and teaching.

“They have a lot of ‘juice,’ you’ll hear that a lot now at Texas,” Bimage said. “They’re two smart guys that I believe in.”

With his decision finalized, Bimage said he will now move up his official visit to Texas to January 13.

Bimage is a three-star prospect and the 48th ranked player in the Lone Star Recruiting Top 100. He becomes the Longhorns' first linebacker commitment in the 2017 class.
