Texas picks up big commitment from DE Daniel Carson
The Texas Longhorns’ biggest remaining needs for the 2018 recruiting class are along the defensive line, and on Friday, Texas added a key component to its class.
Independence (MO) William Chrisman Senior defensive end Daniel Carson announced his commitment to Texas on Friday morning, giving the Longhorns a much-needed pledge at a key position.
The 6-5, 270-pound Carson has kept a low profile throughout his recruitment, but signs began to point in Texas’ direction this week after the Longhorns did a successful in-home visit. That stop by Texas interim coach Bryan Carrington and defensive line coach Oscar Giles was enough to win Carson over, and a few days later he’s added his name to the Texas commitment list.
Carson took an official visit to Texas in September. Since then, he also visited Miami in December and Nebraska last weekend. There was some thought heading into last weekend that the Huskers held the pole position, but Nebraska slid back in recent days and Texas moved to the top of Carson’s list, particularly after the Longhorns’ big in-home visit on Tuesday.
A three-star prospect, Carson chose Texas over offers from schools like Nebraska, Miami, Arkansas, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU and Wisconsin.
Carson is Texas’ first defensive end commitment in the 2018 class and second defensive lineman, joining defensive tackle Keondre Coburn. He is the Longhorns’ 22nd commitment overall.
