For the second time in the span of one week, the Texas Longhorns have landed a tight end commitment.

Last week, the Longhorns shocked the recruiting world by landing a commitment from top junior college tight end Dominick Anderson. On Tuesday, Texas was at it again, this time securing a pledge from top in-state tight end prospect Malcolm Epps.

“There’s no place like home,” Epps told Orangebloods.com when asked what prompted him to commit to Texas. “There’s just no place like home.”

The 6-6, 225-pound Epps is one of the top overall prospects in the Lone Star State and a Rivals250 member. He chose the Longhorns over a long list of scholarship offers from the likes of Texas A&M, TCU, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Florida State and Auburn, to name a few. A long, rangy pass-catcher out of the tight end position, Epps feels his versatility will make him a good fit in the Texas offense.

“I feel like I’m a big target down the middle who can stretch the field, cause mismatches for any safety or linebacker in the country,” Epps said.

The Spring Dekaney prospect, who also excels at basketball, said he’s relieved to have his decision behind him, meaning he can now turn his attention to finishing his high school career at Dekaney on a high note.

“It’s great relief,” Epps said. “Now I can just focus on Dekaney football and Dekaney basketball.

“I know where I’m going to go. I’m 100 percent to Texas.”

Epps has visited Texas on numerous occasions, most recently for a Longhorn mini-camp. He’s built a strong relationship with the UT coaching staff and said after discussing his options with his family, everyone feels comfortable with his decision to become a Longhorn.

“It’s just home. It’s just one of those schools when you grow up in Texas and get to go to Texas,” Epps said. “Vince Young is probably one of my favorite college quarterbacks. Pretty much, Texas was a decision for my entire family.”

Epps becomes the Longhorns’ 17th commitment in the 2018 recruiting class. He’s Texas’ ninth member from the Rivals250.
