Texas still in the mix for Xavier Lees signature

Heading into his weekend official visit in Austin, most recruiting fans considered Xavier Lee a virtual lock to Florida State and the Longhorns were given little chance of making up enough ground to even make the race interesting.
While that might have been the case before he boarded his flight on Friday, Lee said on Sunday night that his trip to the Forty Acres has his mind swirling and he’ll have plenty to consider before making his final decision.

“It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it a lot,” Lee said about the visit. “It gives me a lot to think about. I’m going to spend the whole week thinking about it and then I’ll announce my decision on Sunday (at his team’s awards banquet).”
The five-star prospect and nation’s top-rated dual-threat quarterback took in the usual sites and sounds of an official visit, including a stop at the Frank Erwin Center to watch a Texas basketball game. Apparently, the Longhorn fans made quite an impression, showing Lee that he’s still on their minds even in the middle of a tightly-contested hoops game.
“When I went to the basketball game, at halftime some of the students around had signs with my name and pictures on it,” he said. “That was pretty amazing.”
The 6-4, 200-pound blue chip from Daytona Beach (FL) Seabreeze had just made his way back to Florida when we reached him, and as such had yet to talk about the visit with his mother. When he finds the time, Lee said the two will discuss his options, including how much proximity will weight into his decision.
“I’m going to have to talk to her this week and talk about some of those things,” Lee said.
As one might expect, Lee spent ample time talking to the Texas coaching staff, including a conversation with Mack Brown on where the Longhorns stand.
“We talked for a while. He was telling me how it’s going to be tough to win mom’s heart over and the whole situation with my brother,” said Lee. “He just wanted me to shoot him straight and let him know if they have a chance or not.”
And Lee’s reply?
“I told him I’d talk to my mom about it when I got home.”
