The updated 2012 LSR rankings for June

With almost 200 days left until National Signing Day 2012, it's easy to see why everyone's attention is starting to turn towards 2013 with a single glance of the updated Lone Star Recruiting rankings for 2012.

For a state that used to be known for its wild recruiting battles, the truth is that the state of Texas has been tamed by the monster that is early recruiting.

With the commitment of Crockett wide receiver Dominique Wheeler to Texas Tech on Friday, the entire LSR Top 10 is already committed before Independence Day, an achievement that hasn't occurred in the 16-year existence of the list. In all, only four of the state's top 25 prospects remain uncommitted - with (No.11) Euless Trinity linebacker Brian Nance, (No.17) San Antonio Sam Houston defensive lineman Javonte Magee, (No.19) Texarkana High offensive lineman John Michael McGee and (No.22) and San Antonio Brandeis cornerback Colin Blake registering as the top prizes left in the market.

Yes, the difference makers are getting scooped up quickly this year, but the schools doing the scooping are a little surprising.

Of course, it should shock few that the Texas Longhorns continue to dictate terms in the Lone Star State, as Mack Brown and Co. have been impacted very little by a 5-7 season in 2010. When inspecting the most recent update to the LSR Top 100, the Longhorns have commitments from six of the state's top 10 prospects, 12 of the top 25, 14 of the top 50 and 16 total commitments in the top 100

The Texas impact on the list is expected, but the damage by Texas A&M, Texas Tech and TCU, and the consequent lack of impact by Oklahoma is staggering.

While the Longhorns are leading the way with 16 commitments on the list, Texas A&M is one behind them with 15, with three of their commitments ranking in the top 25 and eight landing in the top 50. Meanwhile, Texas Tech has seven commitments on the list (four in the top 50), with TCU ranking fourth with six.

With the in-state schools rolling inside Texas border this year, the team that seems to be suffering some as a byproduct is Oklahoma. The Sooners currently have three commitments on the LSR Top 100 and only (No.30) Rockdale athlete Daniel Brooks ranks in the top 50.

Among the biggest jumps in the top 50 this month's update include:

• Mansfield DE Hassan Ridgeway (from No.27 to No.10)

• Pflugerville Hendrickson DB Daje Johnson (from No.44 to No.27)

• Lago Vista DT Donald Hopkins (from NR to No.38)

• Lancaster DB La'Darius Newbold (from NR to No.40)

• Euless Trinity DE Polo Manukainiu (from NR to No.41)
