Is anyone going to describe UT’s win over Baylor today as exciting? Perhaps if enough adult performance-enhancers were consumed before and during the game. But after three extremely tight finishes and back-to-back losses, the Longhorns handled a rusty, inferior Baylor team with relative ease for three quarters. Yeah, in Texas fashion the Longhorns created some nervous energy late, but Texas beat a Big 12 team by more than 10 points for just the ninth time during Tom Herman’s tenure.
Three things before a rewatch:
1) Herman, Mike Yurcich, and Texas were team #establishtherun today. On Monday, Herman spoke confidently and adamantly about the improvement of UT’s run game on both sides of the football. The defense certainly did its part. As for the offense’s rushing attack, I think it was better. How much better? I’m not quite sure. Was it a little better or whatever is better than a little better? Probably. It was progress, but didn’t seem like a ton of progress.
That said, I think it’s obvious Bijan Robinson needs to be the leader in running back touches moving forward. Robinson looked quicker, and more confident than Keaontay Ingram. Texas didn’t involve him as much as I would have liked to see, but he did get the start.
Also, the few times Texas actually threw the ball down the field something good often happened. I'm not sure why Texas didn't incorporate that and play-action more.
