Today could be huge for UT hoops program

It’s an exciting time for Texas Longhorn basketball fans. The Horns are closing in on their season opening game against Texas State, but in more immediate matters, Rick Barnes and staff could later today be one step closer to laying the foundation for what is quickly becoming one of the nation’s hottest hoops programs.
Coming off of a star-studded recruiting class in May that was considered to be the best ever inked by Texas – one that was ranked as the best in the nation and included McDonald’s all-Americans LaMarcus Aldridge, Daniel Gibson and Mike Williams – Longhorn fans are anxiously awaiting a Tuesday afternoon announcement by four-star prospect Calvin Miles in which he’ll choose to play for either Texas or the Kansas Jayhawks.

Miles, the nation’s sixth-ranked small forward prospect, is scheduled to hold a press conference at Dallas Skyline at 3 p.m., and Orangebloods.com basketball recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton will be on hand to deliver the breaking news to the Inside the Forty Acres crowd as soon as it goes down (if you're not already a member, click here to join the Inside the Forty Acres community).
The sharp-shooting Miles, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound blue-chip that averaged more than 23 points and 11 boards as a junior, took an official visit to Austin last weekend and many insiders feel that the Horns are the front-runners for his signature.
If he were to commit to Texas, he would give the UT hoops program yet another shot in the arm, and his addition to last year’s talented recruiting class could be the missing link that would put Texas in a position to challenge for national titles for years to come.
With Aldridge and Williams looking like the future in the front-court, and Daniel Gibson already earning rave reviews for his play at the point, Miles’ presence would someday help fill in the off-guard/small forward spots and give Texas a shot at fielding former prep all-American’s at four of the five starting spots.
Needless to say, his announcement is one that every Texas Longhorn fan will want to hear, and nobody will have the day’s events covered like Orangebloods.com.
