Twice as nice - Foreman brothers commit to Texas

The last couple weeks probably felt like it's been a roller coaster ride for Armanti Foreman and D'Onta Foreman. The twin brothers have both struggled with the timing of their decisions and as recently as a few days ago, there was some thought that the two might wind up playing at different schools.

D'Onta was ready to commit to Texas last week but had to hold off until he connected with UT head coach Mack Brown. A few days ago, Armanti was talking about taking some official visits in the fall and not rushing into a decision. There's been constant speculation on how one brother's decision might affect the other.

It doesn't matter any more.

On Thursday night, both brothers decided it was time to put an end to the suddenly hectic recruiting race. The Foreman brothers are officially members of the Texas Longhorns' 2014 recruiting class. The Texas City duo becomes the 20th and 21st commitments for Texas.

"The Texas City Football Team, coaches, and TCISD staff would like to congratulate Armanti and D'Onta Foreman on their commitment to play football for The University of Texas," said Texas City head coach Leland Surovik said in a press release. "Their accomplishments and success exemplify what it is to be a Stingaree and a product of Texas City ISD.

"During the past few years their performances have electrified the crowd and their teammates. It has been with joy and pride that I have watched these two young men and the athletic program grow. It is a blessing for them to be able to play at the next level. Their fans look forward to watching them play next year as Stingarees, and we all will enjoy supporting them in the future as Longhorns. Please join me as we wish D'Onte and Armanti good luck!"

Armanti Foreman, a 6-0, 174-pound wide receiver, chose Texas over Texas A&M. He had originally committed to Oklahoma but decided to open up his recruitment in early April. Since that time, he's been a key target of the Texas coaching staff and he made multiple visits to Austin to show a sincere interest in the Longhorn program.

Armanti, a four-star prospect and Rivals250 member, had indicated in recent interviews that he wanted to continue to take his time with the recruiting process despite D'Onta's public declaration that he was ready to commit to Texas. However, the draw of playing together and Armanti's comfort level with the UT program helped speed up his decision-making process. The family sat down on Wednesday to discuss all options, and it was at that time that the brothers decided they would both commit to Texas on Thursday.

"Armanti is the kind of guy who can play inside and outside receiver," said Rivals.com regional recruiting analyst Jason Howell. "He's a smooth, fluid athlete who can jump and uses great body control to put himself in position to make the catch. Plus he's a guy who is a threat after the catch."

D'Onta, a running back, has starred on the camp circuit in the spring and summer. He was one of the top running backs at the Rivals Camp Series Houston event and he again opened eyes at UT's summer camp on June 9 where he measured in at over 6-1 and 215 pounds and ran in the low 4.4 range.

A few days after the camp, Foreman's mother and grandmother visited the Texas campus and at that point, a scholarship offer was extended to D'Onta. He originally planned to commit last week, but couldn't connect with Mack Brown due to Brown being out of town. None of that matters any more.

"D'Onta is a bigger athlete who has the potential to be a contributor on both sides of the ball," Howell said. "He hits the hole with power and he has good speed as a running back but defense may be where his best potential is as a linebacker."

D'Onta becomes UT's second running back in the 2014 class, joining Houston Eisenhower's Donald Catalon. Armanti adds to an already large wide receiver haul for Texas, becoming the Longhorns' sixth wide receiver pledge of the class.
