Wide receiver Joseph Stone Jr. has been committed to LSU since July of last year, but at this point he has two official visits set up for June and neither is set to take place in Baton Rouge. Stone, out of Fairburn (GA) Langston Hughes, will take an official visit to Central Florida on the weekend of June 2 and then will be at Texas the weekend of June 16. An LSU visit will occur at some point, but Stone said that trip will likely happen later in the recruiting process.

As for Texas, the 5-11, 180-pound Stone said there’s a lot to like, including his connection with the UT coaching staff.

“Just the relationship I have with the coaches, coach (Chris) Jackson, coach (Tashard) Choice,” Stone said when asked what has him wanting to visit Texas. “And the way they’re able to play young guys, get guys on a big showcase. Also, they’re going to the SEC, so Texas is definitely a school I’d have a great opportunity at.”

The trip to Austin in June will actually be Stone’s third. He was in town earlier this spring for a 7v7 tournament and then returned for an unofficial visit. On his upcoming official visit, Stone will get a more thorough look at what Texas has to offer and have more time to spend with Jackson.

“Coach Jackson, he relates a lot, gets straight to the point. He’s been where I want to be, has the ability to relate and tell me everything, the ins and outs,” Stone said.

Stone maintains that his commitment to LSU is still strong, but he’s going to do his homework and compare other programs. With the schools that are still in pursuit, combined with his commitment to the Tigers, he said it’s a no-lose situation. In the end, he Stone said he’s simply looking for the place that can best develop him and off the field.

“Just everything that’s going to help me improve, be developed, just be a better person overall,” Stone said. “With me being committed to LSU, I love LSU, and having Texas, I feel like it’s a win/win situation. I’m blessed to have two great schools and great programs interested in me.”

Ranked No. 161 on the Rivals250, Stone holds offers from all over the country. A versatile player who can do a little bit of everything on offense, he feels it’s a combination of factors that are making him such a hot recruiting commodity.

“I think when coaches see me, they see the way I carry myself on the field, off the field, is different,” Stone said. “Of course, on-field play, I’m a hard worker, I’m a leader, they just see something different.”

Stone is ranked as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and is the No. 12-ranked athlete in the 2024 class.
